SPECIAL SUMMER WORKSHOPS

Summer Kid’s Art Camp

Instructor: Adrienne Risby

July 28-August 1, Monday-Friday

Time: 9:00 am-1:00 pm 

Ages: 8 to 13

Students will complete a number of projects using
a variety of mediums. Subject matter may vary from
animals, landscapes, still life and much more. Many
master and contemporary artists will be studied along with appropriate art vocabulary. Most supplies included. Bring a sack lunch. Homeschoolers welcome.
Minimum students 6, Max 12

Stick Puppet Workshop    

Instructor: Morgan Elser

Sunday, August 3

Time: 10:00-4:00 pm
(one six hour session)
Ages 15 & up

Accomplished artist and puppet maker will provide
instructions and supplies to create the perfect stick puppet. The puppets will be about 20" tall. Puppets will be constructed from wooden dowels, art foam, painted eyes, acrylic paint, fabric, air dry clay, magic sculpt and eye bolts. Each student will create one puppet. Students must have a basic knowledge of art doll body construction. A stick (or rod) puppet has a jointed torso, an art doll head with a dowel for a spine as well as a holder for the puppet. Dowels are also attached to the hands for action of the hands. Some instruction will also be
provided to make these newly created puppets come to life in the hands of the student puppeteer.

Two Glass Workshops

Instructor: Brett Hoerr

Wednesdays, July 23 & August 20

Time: 6:00-8:00 pm 

(two 2-hour sessions)

Ages 18 & up

Registration deadline: one week before
In one evening, transform glass using a torch to create two pendants. Class also features a bowl making demonstration. Workshops are held at UnBroken Glass in E. Peoria.

SUMMER ART CLASSES


Figure Drawing / Open Studio 

Tuesdays, July 8-August 26

Time: 7:00-9:00 pm 

(eight 2-hour sessions)

Ages 18 & up

Draw or paint the figure from a live clothed or nude model. Monitor will direct the model to change poses and provide guidance. Drop-in fee $10.00 per class.

Beginning Children’s Art

Ages 6-12 years

Students will learn art from a broad perspective, emphasizing humans as a part of the natural world, covering art techniques as well as history and environmental issues.

Intermediate Children’s Art

Ages 11-14 years

Drawing and/or painting for serious young students, emphasizing individual style. Students work independently, with critiques by Preston. Students bring their own pens, pencils, and/or acrylic paint, paper or canvas and photographs they have taken from which to work.

Painting

Relationship of drawing and painting in acrylics or the student’s own choice of
media. Exploration of painting through color theory and design. Students should bring brushes, a canvas 18”x 24” or larger, paint (at least yellow, red, blue, white & black) and photographs they have taken themselves from which to work.

Watercolor Painting

Ages 16 & up

Learn color theory & technique in the art of watercolor. Through this class, create work that reflects the properties of the free flowing medium. Watercolor color paper will be provided. Students should bring a minimum of primary watercolor paints, assortment of brushes, and a mixing tray. Student may also bring a watercolor painting already in progress or photos taken by the student from which to work.

Sculpture

MARTIAL ARTS CLASSES

Tai Chi Ch’uan

Teaches Yang style Tai Chi pattern with strong emphasis on Tai Chi applications and principles. Also introduces weapons and other external martial arts (Tae Kwon Do, Karate).

General class Information: All classes are held at CAC except where noted. For all classes except Saturday Tai Chi, please use Commercial St. entrance at the rear of the building.
Registration: Students may enroll during regular business hours: Tues-Sat 11:00-5:00, call or fax registration with credit card or mail in the completed form with check. Fees include all supplies unless stated. Registration deadlines are stated with each class
description.
Late Registration: Late registrations are welcome if there is space available in the class. Class fees are not prorated. Cancellations: Class may be canceled if minimum enrollment is not met. Refunds: Full Refund: If student withdraws prior to registration deadline or CAC cancels a class. Partial Refund: If student withdraws after registration deadline and /or up to the end of the 1st class session, half of the class fee will be refunded. After registration deadline, materials / lab fees cannot be refunded. CAC is not responsible to provide refunds or make-up classes for students who miss classes. Fees will not be deferred to a future class.
