A workshop for students applying for college: preparing a portfolio, offering guidance and encouragement on your current work. Help with the direction of future works to round out your portfolio before you apply to your school of choice. Instructors have experience in the field of marketing, print, painting, sculpture and media design.

Kelly Kolton is a graphic designer in Peoria. She currently works as an in-house designer for a law firm's marketing and creative services department. She also does freelance graphic design work for businesses and not-for-profit organizations. A native of the Chicagoland area, she graduated from Bradley University with her bachelor's degree in graphic design and studio art. While in college, she worked as a graphic designer for marketing publications, newspapers, and a magazine.
Figure Drawing / Open Studio
Tuesdays, July 13-September 7

Time: 7:00-9:00 pm
(eight 2-hour sessions, )
Ages 18 & up
Draw or paint the figure from a live clothed or nude model. A monitor will direct the model to change poses and provide guidance. Drop-in fee $10.00 (Please RSVP if planning to drop -in) per class. (No class May 4)

Monotype Workshop

An exciting fusion of painting and printmaking, a monotype is an experimental, mixed-media approach to creating one-of-a-kind images.

Children’s Art (Beginning & Intermediate)

(eight 1-hour sessions)
Ages 6-14 years

Students will learn art from a broad perspective, emphasizing color theory and covering various art techniques as well as art history and environmental issues.

Photography Workshop

Saturdays, July 24 & 31
Time: 2:00–4:00 p.m.
(two 2- hour sessions)
ages 14 and up
Registration deadline: July 17
The class will begin with the basics of photographic composition and then adjust according to the needs of the class. Instructor will also cover decision-making after shooting, learning to select the best of your work. Bring your camera and 5-10 print samples of your photos to the class.

Bookmaking Workshop

Sunday, August 8
Time: 9:00–4:30 pm
(one 7-hour session)
Ages 16 & up
Registration deadline: July 31
Class will cover making décor paste paper for book covers. The paper students make will be used in the construction of a pop up carousel book that will be completed by the end of the class. A popup carousel is a multi-level pop up with two to three levels of pages, each popping into the same space, thus more sculptural. It is more dimensional than a straight pop up and requires careful cutting. There will be a supply list and/or minor material cost. Bring beverages and a sack lunch for a 1/2 hour lunch break. MJ Goerke is a bookmaker from St. Louis who often exhibits at the Fine Art Fair in September on the RiverFront in Peoria
