JOSE ALEMAN SASIETA Mixed Media jalemans@hotmail.com A native of Lima, Peru, Jose Aleman migrated with his family to the United States in 1971, living first in New York City and then mostly in Chicago. This image of the artist is from an intervention at the presidential palace in Lima Peru. Lava la Bandera. Over the years he has been interested in mythology and its origins, popular culture, sociology, psychology, social justice, religious and spiritual ideas, history: in short, quite a lot that has to do with the human experience. Painting and making objects helps him understand the world which we inhabit. Jose strives to make work in which people can recognize themselves, reflect upon, and which allows us to see humanity from diverse vantage points. Aleman is a trained artist and architect. In the past two decades he has participated in numerous exhibitions, including the Lima Biennales of 1998 and 2000. His work is in private and public collections in the US and abroad. He has taught courses in architectural design and fine art at Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art, and has been a member of art faculties at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, DePaul University, and Harrington College of Design.
