Giri Raj Gupta
Acrylic, oil, water, mixed
Giri Raj Gupta was exposed to Western as well as Indian art early in the princely state of Rajasthan, India where the artists were patronized by the rulers, especially artists working on large paintings and sculptures in the palaces. Some artists deeply influenced him. The intensity of that interest grew further that encouraged him to attend University of Rajasthan and graduate with a degree in art. He believes that “a good piece of art converses with its beholder,” and evokes a sense intrigue and joy.
Later, he obtained a Ph.D. in Sociology. He was a Professor of Sociology at Western Illinois University, Macomb, Illinois, USA for over thirty years. His interest in art never waned and he held exhibitions of his art in a variety of settings. Experimenting with a variety of mediums he sees a delightful alliance between sociology and art.
