Bio Info

it’s only the apocalypse (images 1-5)
We live in a media saturated culture. Guy Debord warned us of the dangers of an image-mediated society in the Society of the Spectacle in 1967, and he committed suicide in the 1990s when his warnings turned into realities. This work jumps to the future, and wonders what it will be like when the unstable system of late capitalism falls. What will art be like when there are no more trees to make paper, for example? These drawings are made from found magazine pages that have been sanded down leaving only specific parts of the original image. In some cases new marks and paint are added to change the way the remaining parts of the image are read. Thanks to the ease of image manipulation that the computer has afforded, altering found images is no new thing, however these drawings bring that manipulation to the physical; because after the apocalypse there will be no more computers.
